Dr Billy Chan

Senior Manager, Communications Technologies, Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI)

Dr Billy Chan is a Senior Manager of Software Technologies in Communications Technologies Group, managing and conducting R&D projects and system engineering in advanced wireless software technologies, Dr Chan focuses on the network architecture and management systems of 4G networks (such as Wifi, WiMAX and LTE), and IP backbone networks. He also focuses on the R&D projects for Sensors, Internet-of-Things (IOT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications management and applications.

Dr Chan received his Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he was a Research Associate at the Digital Signal Processing Center. During his Ph.D. study, he also went to the University of Southern California, USA as a Visiting Scholar at the Signal and Imaging Processing Institute in 2002. Before joining ASTRI in 2006, he furthered his study and research for two years as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the Department of Electrical Engineering in the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. Dr Chan is an IEEE member with over 20 publications in various IEEE transactions and conferences. He also serves as a Communications & Information Security Technical Committee member in the IEEE Communications Society. Moreover, Dr Chan received the Croucher Foundation Fellowship Award in Hong Kong from 2004 to 2006.
